





The 3rd edition of the Oeiras Open Water Race will take place on May 30th, 2026, at Praia de Caxias
The Competition has three distances:

The Oeiras Open Water Race is organised by Clube Olímpico de Oeiras (address: Rua Alfredo Lopes nº15, 2ºA, 2770-009, Paço de Arcos; TIN: 507 570 952), with the support from the Oeiras City Council and technical organization of HMS Sports.

The Oeiras Open Water Race is an open water race, with the start and finish line located at Praia de Caxias and covering three distances:

At the finish line, all athletes will receive a packet of solid and liquid supply.
Each race will have the following deadlines:
All athletes who do not complete the course within the allotted time for their race will be removed from the competition and will not be considered for classification.
All relays who do not complete the three courses within the allotted time for their race will be withdrawn from the event and will not be considered for classification.

(*) The 3 Distance Pack can only be used in the individual form. It cannot be divided among multiple athletes.
c) Payments can be made via ATM, VISA or MBWay reference.
Each reference is valid for a maximum of 72 hours. After this validity, the reference expires and the athlete will need to register again.
d) The organisation may at any time suspend or extend deadlines or add or limit the number of registrations for the event depending on technical/structural needs/availability, without previous warning.
The registration is personal and non-transferable.
Refunds of the registration fee will be made in accordance with the provisions set out in point 23 of these regulations.

Every athlete is guaranteed a t-shirt by the organisation. Available sizes are: S, M, L and XL.
The available t-shirt sizes' measurements (height x width) are as follows:
The size of the t-shirt will be chosen on the race registration form. The measurements for each size can also be found on the registration form.
Size changes for the t-shirt will not be accepted while picking up the race package.
If there is stock available after the event, the organisation will exchange it.

Picking up the race packet on behalf of another participant may occur, as long as the following are presented:
The organisation guarantees, for a period of 15 days, counting from the date of the event, the custody of all paid and not picked race packets.
To obtain the unpicked race packet, the athlete must contact the organisation using the available contact details.
Shipping costs for the race packet will be covered by the athlete.
After the defined period, the organisation will deliver all the athlete's kits not collected to a social solidarity institution.
The gifts at the end of the race are exclusive to participants who complete the route and cross the finish line, with the official race bib and chip of Oeiras Open Water Race.
All athletes registered in the Oeiras Open Water Race must use the timing chip provided in the athlete's race packet, with the respective bracelet.
The timing chip and respective bracelet must be handed over to the organisation at the end of the race. The athlete will only receive the race packet at the end of the race, when they hand over the timing chip and bracelet.
If you lose your timing chip and bracelet, you will be charged 40€, which must be paid at the event venue, in cash.
The timing chip will only be read if it is placed correctly on the ankle. If the timing chip is removed from the bracelet by the athlete and placed incorrectly, its reading is not guaranteed and will not be included in the classification.
In relays, the swimmer currently competing must correctly wear the chip on their ankle. The chip serves as the baton. Upon completing their course, the swimmer must pass the chip to the next team member within the handover box, and the second swimmer must attach it to their ankle before starting their course. This procedure is repeated for the third relay member.
If the relay consists of only two members, it is prohibited for the same swimmer to perform two consecutive courses. The procedure is as follows: swimmer 1 completes the initial course and passes the chip, within the handover box, to swimmer 2, who completes the second course and passes the chip, within the handover box, back to swimmer 1, who then performs the third course.
The organisation is not responsible for failure to present results in case of incorrect placement of the timing chip.
The organisation will disqualify all athletes who complete the race with:
Trophies will be awarded to the following athletes:
(*) The top 5 classified from each team will be considered for the team classification, regardless of gender and will be calculated based on the sum of times.
(**) Relays are awarded overall and not based on gender.
Both male and female athletes will be taken into account for team classification.
All team athletes must be registered with the same team name, without exception. If they have different names, they will be considered different teams.
The male and female winners of each category of the 750 meter, 1.500 meter and 3.000 meter races will be offered a registration for the Oeiras Open Water Race 2026 edition, with registration valid only for the respective athletes.
All participants who complete the respective course will be given a supply kit.
All athletes will be able to download an electronic participation certificate from the event website.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the Oeiras Open Water Race, regardless of gender or nationality as long as they have properly registered, followed all rules, and submitted their entries by the deadline.
Swimmers are not permitted to use auxiliary buoyancy, propulsion and breathing materials or objects, such as, but not limited to: pullbouy, fins, snorkel.
It's mandatory to use the swim cap provided by the organisation.
It's mandatory to use the timing chip provided by the organisation.
It's allowed to wear a watch and/or wearing protective neck collars.
Athletes who do not wear an isothermal suit will be marked with the respective numbers on their back, arms and hands. Athletes wearing an isothermal suit will be marked with their respective numbers on their hands.
For races with water temperatures equal to or greater than 18ºC, the isothermal suit is optional. When the water temperature is below 18ºC, all athletes are required to wear a wetsuit.
Textile suits cannot extend beyond the shoulders, neck and ankles, respecting all other requirements as to the specifications of the suits for the pool.
* Note: isothermal suits are suits that produce thermal insulation. Isothermal suits, for both men and women, must cover the torso, back, shoulders and knees, but cannot extend beyond the neck, ankles and wrists.
All marker buoys on the route must be bypassed as indicated under penalty of disqualification.
The athletes start on land and their race time is activated the moment they step on the timing mat.
In the 3.000m race, athletes are forced to come to the sand between laps and there will be a timing mat to guarantee this step. All athletes who do not have a time reading at this control point will be disqualified.
Only the athlete's final time is considered when he steps on the timing mat placed in the finish line area and his timing chip is read.
Relay teams must have at least two members, and it is mandatory to complete 3 courses, meaning one member may complete two courses. The chip will serve as a relay baton and must be passed between team members in the designated area for this purpose.
The following age-groups are considered for male and female athletes:

8 athletes will start at once, with a gap of 10 seconds between each start.
At the time specified by the organisation, athletes will have to queue up in the boxes designated for their race.
The athletes will line up according to the order in which they arrived at the starting line.
Each athlete's race and time will only start when the athlete steps on the timing mat placed in the starting area.
In the relay race, the first team member to complete the course must be at the starting line, while the others must be in the designated area for relay baton exchange, which will be the chip.
The organisation will disqualify any athlete who:
Clube Olímpico de Oeiras and HMS Sports will not accept the registration of athletes with unsportsmanlike conduct in its competitions.
The police and security forces will be responsible for managing, planning and controlling and eliminating unauthorized elements during the events, as well as ensuring the safety of participants.
The race organisers will provide Oeiras Open Water Race participants with medical support with emergency ambulances during the course, start and finish of the events.
If additional emergency medical treatment is required, the SNS (Portuguese National Health Service) will be in charge of providing it.
Any participant who is considered unfit to participate or who has received critical medical attention may be removed from the Oeiras Open Water Race by the medical staff.
The Race Director will decide cases not covered by the Oeiras Open Water Race rules.
When registering, all participants or their legal guardians, in the case of underage athletes, accept these regulations and, in case of doubt or the emergence of a situation not covered by it, they must inform the organisation.
By registering, all participants declare acceptance of these regulations.

With registration, all participants or their legal guardians, in the case of underage athletes, declare that they assume the following terms of responsibility:
Personal data will be processed automatically, under the terms approved by the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union, by the event organisation, the entity responsible for the data, exclusively for the provision of services necessary for participation in the event in who signs up.
The processing of data for communication about the event for which you register, communication of other events from Clube Olímpico de Oeiras and HMS Sports Consulting and services and communication from this event partners is optional and is subject to specific and express consent in the event registration form, always in compliance with Directive 95/46/EC of April 27, 2016.
Participants are guaranteed, under the terms of the same law, access to their data, and may request it in writing from the organisation for it to be updated, corrected or deleted.
The personal data collected as a result of this event will be stored for a period of two years and is accessible free of charge for consultation, rectification or deletion via email geral@ hmssports.pt
Participants must meet the health conditions necessary to practice sports. After registering, they assume that they feel physically and psychologically prepared for the physical effort inherent to the race in which they will participate.
All participants, without exception, must meet the health conditions necessary to practice sports, exempting the organisation of the event, its partners, supporters and public bodies involved from any responsibilities.
The organisation of the event provides registrants with personal accident insurance, with the following coverage:
The organisation is not responsible for situations that are not covered by this insurance.
Upon registration, the participant grants Clube Olímpico de Oeiras, HMS Sports and its affiliates free and unconditional permission to use their image for event filming, including reproduction of the image in promotional and communication materials.
Clube Olímpico de Oeiras and HMS Sports reserves the right to use the database with elements filled in by participants in its promotional activities.
Participants can choose not to allow the transfer of the personal information obtained during registration by selecting the option on the form.
Refunds for registration fees are not issued.
However, until April 18th, 2026, the participant may transfer their registration to another person as long as they formally request this change, in writing, to the organisation – info@oeirasopenwaterrace.pt. If the participant does not inform the organisation of such a situation, the organisation will not be responsible for any accident or damage that this athlete may suffer.
The event may be cancelled due to external factors such as natural disasters, strikes, demonstrations, inability to use traffic routes, telecommunications, government restrictions, or new legislation.
In these cases, the organisation reserves the right, within 30 days following the date scheduled for the event, to issue an opinion on the actions to be taken resulting from the severity of the cancellation.
